Happy New Year!

Hey everyone,

We seem to have forgotten about this here blog so I thought I'd try to resurrect it.

Did everyone have a lovely new year? I'm not a fan of new year, it always seems like an anti-climax, so I went to a friends house and we watched bad TV with a bottle of rum and watched the fireworks at midnight. Fun, fun. Christmas was great, could only get a few days off work but went with the family to my favourite beach in the world on the west coast of Wales. It was sunny but freezing, the best weather for the beach.

I am in the process of buying a flight to New Zealand at the moment. I've bought a working holiday visa which lasts for 12 months, but can extend it to 23 months if I like it out there. I know nothing about the country except that I'm moving there. I love that. I've never been to that side of the world so am painfully excited, but have so much to sort out before I can leave and I'm looking at flights around the 20th January so I need to kick myself into gear. If you guys fancy a visit..!

Anyway, I'm working constantly so don't have a lot of time to do anything and have got to get off and go to New Zealand! Hope you're all good, give us an update on your holidays.

France

Just booked a last minute trip to France. Flying to Toulouse on Sunday (10th) and doing a bit of a road trip with some friends. Ending in Brussels on the 20th, I think. If you're free for any of this, or close by at all then come meet me. 2 places in the car too!

Hey everyone

Hey, hope everyone's doing okay.

I just finished my degree with an unexpected 2.1 and I am extremely happy (I doubt 2.1 means anything to anyone haha. The top grade you can get for a degree is a 1st, then 2.1, 2.2, 3rd, fail. So I guess 2.1 is about a B, but a 1st is really rare so I am extremely extremely happy).

I am doing a horrible job selling train tickets over the phone, on a rubbish rota system where I work 8 hour shifts between 6am - 10pm; not the most fun, but I'm severely in debt which wasn't helped by going to Venice-Ljubljana-Pula-Piran-Trieste-Milan last month, but it was well worth it.

I've moved back from Bristol to my parents house while I'm doing this crap job to save more money, and it's nice to see them and my friends from home, but Southampton must be in the 10 worst cities in Europe, possibly the world, and living in the forest again means that I still spend a lot of money on petrol and trying to get away from Southampton!!

In other news..! Me and Aidan have broken up, it's not a big deal, it was just the time to do it and we're both fine and still friends so it's okay.

Other than that, I'm trying to make arrangements to move to Brussels at the moment, which will hopefully solve most of the aforementioned problems with money and location etc!

What has everyone else been doing? I've been really bad at keeping in contact with everyone because of my shift work, so I'm sorry for not replying to emails etc. Hopefully I'll get better, but I'm not promising anything!

new plans

Hey everyone!

So much has happened lately and I don't know where to start... I have to keep this short because I really should be studying.

All my plans have changed a bit in the last few weeks. I got a mail from my professor asking if I needed a job. I said yes and was hired instantly, so now I work at the Social Science Research institude of Iceland - woohoo! It's only a temporary job for a few months but it's a great opportunity and already they've given me some more tasks to do so hopefully I'll be able to work there a bit with school next winter. I had to start straight away so I postponed my thesis that was due in april and I'm going to work on it this summer. I'm actually really happy with that decision because it gives me the opportunity to make it even better. I'm writing on infertitily and how infertility can shape people's identity and notion towards their body - their masculinity and femininty etc, and how infertility affects people's status in society. It's a very interesting topic and it's very hard not to get off track because there are so many ideas and questions that come to mind while working on it.

I've been working in my new job for a few weeks now, I was hired because they're conducting a large scale survey among immigrants in Iceland. We're hoping to be able to understand the needs of these diverse groups of people and hopefully hand it in to congress and the city counsil so they can offer some reforms to immigants in Iceland. The survey is done within companies that have many foreign employees and my job is to contact the companies, explain the research to them and get permission for us to send in interpreters etc. I'm also going to be helping out with other reasearch projects at the Institude so hopefully I'll get an experience conduction interviews, interviewing groups and analysing data. I feel very lucky even though it's not the best pay I could get during the summer. It's a very cool experience and I'm working with great people.

I'm also happy how flexible everything is. I get time of to go and see martin next week and then I go to Berlin and Polland in three weeks with the University choir. I've also planned to go to Roskilde festival in Denmark in June/July... you're all welcome to join me if you want ;) I donðt think I'll have much money left after the summer but I donðt care, I want to enjoy my life.

So life is good right now, today is the first day of summer in Iceland and it's a national holiday. I've taken the opportuninty to use my desk at the Institude and study for my courses. It's nice to have bit of peace ad quiet while studying - and a really fancy coffee machine that grinds the beans and everything ;D

I hope you're all well and good. I'm sorry for not writing enough on here. I think we should make an efford to bring this site back to life. I miss you and love you all lots and lots... there I've said it, haha.

Hey girls - just a quick update!
On Tuesday I leave for Thailand which is my first stop of many in the coming months. If all goes as planned, I should arrive in Hvar, Croatia by the end of July and then go to uni in Nottingham in the fall. I'll try to keep people posted via the website below (or just click my name on the right and there should be a legitimate link).
Let me know how everybody is doing - theres nothing like news from the people you care about when youre away :)
Hope all is well, good luck with your endeavors and take care of yourselves!!
